Choosing between the digital scale with large numbers approach and a voice-guided setup for elderly weighing is a common decision for families supporting aging in place. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight focuses on an extra-bright LED display with large clear numbers, while the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice adds a loud voice announcement to a backlit big-number screen.
Both aim to make daily weighing easier without bending or straining, but they serve different needs around vision, hearing, and confidence on the scale. Always check with a healthcare provider or occupational therapist before making mobility or bathroom safety changes for a senior in your care, especially if balance or low vision is a concern.

- Bright large LED display offers excellent visibility for elderly users
- Sturdy 400 lb capacity with durable tempered glass and stable anti skid base

The Etekcity EBS-C121-KUS is a non smart digital floor scale built for simple, accurate daily weight tracking at home. With a 400 pound capacity and high precision sensors, it is well suited to adults, families and especially seniors who prefer straightforward operation over connected features.
Its standout feature is Weight Verification Double Check Tech, which automatically confirms accuracy without a manual zero reset after moving the scale. In everyday use you can step on immediately and receive a reliable reading, while the ability to measure items as light as 100g adds real versatility for pets or small parcels.
Design and build quality emphasize safety and visibility. The 11.8 by 11.8 inch tempered glass platform feels solid, rounded corners help prevent bumps, and the full coverage anti skid bottom keeps it stable on tile or hardwood. The bright 3.74 by 1.72 inch LED display with large numbers stays clearly visible without deep bending or reading glasses.
There are a few limitations to note. As a non smart model it does not provide body fat, muscle mass or app tracking found on Etekcity smart scales. It also performs best on a hard, flat floor and the verification color indicator does not activate for very light items.
Overall the EBS-C121 delivers strong accuracy, ease of use and senior friendly readability in a compact footprint. If you want a dependable, no fuss bathroom scale with verified precision and thoughtful safety details, it is a top choice in its class.

In daily use it delivers quick, consistent readings in easy to read 1 pound increments, with a bright, extra wide LCD that remains visible without bending over. There are a few limitations to consider. It is a straightforward weight only scale, so you will not get body fat, BMI, or app connectivity. Those who prefer highly granular tracking may find the 1 pound increment less detailed than scales that measure to 0.1 or 0.2 pounds.
Overall, the RunStar BG1911 offers an excellent mix of capacity, comfort, and clarity at an accessible price point. For anyone seeking a simple, accurate, and family friendly scale with room to stand securely, it is a highly recommended option.

It does require recalibration after being moved or after battery changes, which adds a small extra step. Readings can also shift by a couple of pounds if foot placement is off center, so consistent positioning is important for best results.

The NUTRIFIT EB9233H is an extra wide digital floor scale designed for simple, reliable daily weight tracking at home. With its 400 pound capacity and broad 13.8 by 11.4 inch platform, it is especially well suited for larger users, taller individuals, and anyone who wants more stability and comfort during weigh ins.
Performance centers on four high precision German G sensors that deliver consistent readings to 0.1 pound increments. Build quality stands out with an ultra thick 6mm tempered glass platform, rounded corners for safety, and anti skid pads that keep the scale steady on hard floors. Auto zero, auto power off, low battery and overload indicators add convenience, while the slim 0.8 inch profile and sleek black finish allow it to blend neatly into any bathroom or bedroom.
Drawbacks are minor but worth noting. The glass surface can show water spots and may feel slippery when wet, so regular wiping and dry feet are recommended. The Cirbic Talking Scale is a digital floor scale designed with accessibility in mind. It is built for blind, visually impaired and elderly users who need a clear, spoken weight reading plus large visual numbers.
Its standout feature is the loud, clear voice that announces your weight in a North American male accent. The large backlit LCD shows weight in pounds or kilograms, so you get both audible and visual confirmation instantly.
The scale uses a durable 6mm thick tempered glass platform and measures 11 by 11 inches. It supports a wide range from 6.6 to 397 pounds and feels stable underfoot while remaining compact enough for small bathrooms.
There are a few trade offs to consider. It needs two AAA batteries that are not included, and there is no option to mute the voice for quiet environments. The platform is also more compact than some full size scales, and it lacks smart features like Bluetooth or body composition analysis.
Overall, the Cirbic Talking Scale delivers exactly what it promises, accessible and accurate weight measurement without complexity. If you value clear voice feedback and easy to read numbers over connected features, it is a reliable and user friendly choice.
The Cirbic Talking Scale focuses on simple, accessible performance with essential features for daily use.

- Some users report needing to recalibrate before each use for consistent accuracy
The Awaiymi Talking Bathroom Scale is a digital body weight scale built specifically for users who benefit from audio feedback, including elderly, visually impaired, and pregnant individuals. Instead of bending to read numbers, you simply step on and hear your weight announced in a clear female voice.
In daily use, the auto-calibrating sensors deliver measurements accurate to 0.2 lb up to 551 lb, and reviewers consistently praise its reliability compared to doctor office scales. The large 3.9 inch backlit LCD lights up automatically, while the one-click button on the back makes switching between pounds and kilograms effortless.
Design is both practical and elegant, with a wide 13.98 x 11.81 inch tempered glass platform that feels stable underfoot. Four non-slip pads keep the scale firmly in place and protect floors, while the slim white profile blends easily into any bathroom decor.
There are a few limitations to note. Volume is fixed and cannot be adjusted, which some users with significant hearing loss found too quiet from a standing position. Accuracy also depends on placement on a flat, hard surface, and a small number of users noted inconsistent readings if the scale is not recalibrated between uses.
Overall, this is an excellent choice for anyone needing a talking scale that prioritizes clarity, safety, and ease of use. With its loud voice, bright display, high capacity, and included batteries, it offers strong value and everyday convenience for seniors and those with low vision.

Head-to-Head: How These Two Scales Compare for Senior Use
This comparison looks at the practical differences that matter most in a senior household, from how you read the result to how steady the platform feels underfoot. Both the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight and the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice are built for home use, yet they prioritize different kinds of accessibility.
Display Readability and Large Numbers
The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight is designed around visibility, with an extra-bright LED display and large clear numbers that are described as easy to read without bending over or needing reading glasses. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice also offers a backlit screen with big numbers in pounds or kilograms, so both products address low vision with oversized digits.
Where they differ is display technology and lighting. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight uses a bright LED that stands out in dim bathrooms and bedrooms, which many caregivers find helpful for early morning checks. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice relies on a backlit LCD that still shows bold numbers, and it pairs that visual with audio so you do not have to rely on sight alone.
Voice Announcement vs Visual Only Support
Voice support is the clearest divider between these two options. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice announces your weight in a clear, loud North American male voice as soon as you step on, which may help reduce the risk of misreading numbers or losing balance while leaning forward. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight does not include a voice function and relies entirely on its bright visual display.
If the person weighing has significant low vision, blindness, or difficulty bending to see the floor, the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice offers an alternative way to confirm the result without visual checking. If hearing is limited or the household prefers a quiet, simple visual check, the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight keeps the experience straightforward with large numbers alone and no audio to manage.
Weight Capacity and Platform Stability
Stability and capacity affect confidence, especially for seniors who worry about slipping or shifting while stepping on and off. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight is rated to 400 lb / 180 kg and is described with a tempered glass platform, rounded corners, and large anti-skid padding with full-coverage bottom support for stability. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice is rated from 6.6 lbs to 397 lbs (3 to 180 kg) on an 11 inch by 11 inch platform made with 6 mm thick tempered glass.
Both use tempered glass and anti-slip features that may help reduce the risk of sliding on hard floors, but the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight notes upgraded safe quality details for elderly home use and a slightly higher maximum load. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice provides a compact square footprint that fits easily in small bathrooms, while families who want extra room for foot placement may appreciate a wider platform such as the one found on larger capacity options.
Ease of Setup and Daily Use
For daily independence, simple operation matters more than extra features. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight is designed to start by removing the plastic strip from the battery compartment, then using step-on activation with Weight Verification Double Check technology so you simply step on without tapping or waiting for zero. It also supports lb, kg, and st units and includes low battery indication.
The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice also uses auto on and off, with a button on the back to switch between lb and kg, and it requires 2 AAA batteries. Both products emphasize automatic calibration and auto-off to simplify use, yet the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight adds the ability to weigh light items down to 100 g after the initial zero, which some households find useful for pets or small objects, while the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice keeps the focus on clear spoken results for body weight.
When you consider setup in a senior kitchen or bathroom, also think about placement on a flat, hard surface and good lighting, as recommended for most digital scales. For more ideas on adapting the home for steadier routines, you may find our guide to kitchen tools for balance issues helpful for broader daily living support.
Which One Should You Get?
Choose the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight if your priority is a bright, large-number display that is easy to read at a glance without audio. It is a strong fit when the senior has mild to moderate vision changes but hears well enough to read visually, wants a simple step-on experience with no voice settings, and benefits from the high-precision sensors and bright LED that make quick morning weigh-ins more confident.
Choose the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice if the senior has low vision, blindness, or difficulty bending to see the display and would benefit from hearing the result spoken aloud. It is especially helpful when a caregiver is not always nearby to read the screen, when the person prefers auditory confirmation, or when a loud, clear voice announcement supports independence more than a visual display alone.
If you are weighing other home setup choices, such as furniture height and reach, our article on how high an overbed table should be for elderly offers related guidance on creating a comfortable, accessible environment alongside your scale decision.
Who Should Skip Both?
These bathroom scales are not ideal for seniors who need a device that integrates with a smart speaker or app for remote monitoring, voice assistant routines, or automatic health tracking shared with family. Neither the Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight nor the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice is described as a connected Alexa setup with Wi-Fi, smartphone syncing, or caregiver alerts.
This type of standalone scale is also not a good fit if the senior has severe balance instability that makes standing unsupported unsafe, or if a physician has recommended a seated or clinical weighing method. In those cases, a different solution such as a chair scale, a platform with handrail support, or professional monitoring may be more appropriate than any home bathroom scale.
Households with very uneven floors, thick carpet, or limited space for safe step-on and step-off clearance should also pause and address the environment first. Frequently Asked Questions
Is a talking scale better than a large-number scale if the senior has low vision?
For many seniors with low vision, the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice may be more helpful because it announces the weight aloud so you do not need to see the display clearly. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight still supports low vision with its extra-bright LED and large clear numbers, but it requires visual reading and does not provide audio confirmation.
Do either of these scales work like an Alexa setup for elderly with voice control?
Neither product is described as an Alexa-connected or smart-home scale with voice assistant integration. The Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice provides a built-in loud voice that speaks your weight automatically, which offers voice support without needing a separate Alexa device, Wi-Fi, or app setup.
Which scale is easier for a senior to use alone each day?
Both are designed for simple solo use with auto on, auto off, and auto calibration. The Etekcity Digital Bathroom Scale for Body Weight emphasizes step-on convenience with no tapping or waiting for zero, while the Talking Scales – Big Numbers and Clear Loud Voice adds spoken feedback that may help reduce the need to bend or ask for help reading the result.
